This page shows you how to make a simple laminated novelty card. phatism.com was originally (before 2000) a free novelty card template site. We eventually spun the template side off. We are now spinning it back in! This page contains everything that our novelty card template site used to contain, plus lots more.
All the info you need you need to make a simple novelty card is on this page.
The instructions on this page are no substitute for a plastic novelty card like the ones you'll find on our
NOVELTY CARD CATALOGUE page:
This template and the instructions are only meant to give you an idea of what
can be done with a simple program like Microsoft Word. Our plastic hologram novelty cards are made of the same material as bank cards, feature realistic designs, and have security features such as smartchips, holograms, and magnetic strips.
You'll need all this stuff to make your free novelty card:
- Novelty card template (there's a free one on this page!)
- Decent quality colour printer
- Scissors or preferably a craft knife
- Glue
- Scanner
- Laminator
1
Find a novelty card template for the novelty card you require. This site has a link to a template which you are free to use and modify for personal use.
Our template below is is for novelty use only. Not proof of age. Misusue may be illegal.:
2
Enter whatever details you require into the empty gaps on the template. If you're using our template as above then
this is very simple to do in MS Word. If the template requires a photo then scan a photo and import it into the template.
3
Print both sides of the novelty card template out on the best paper you have and at the highest resolution possible. A photo quality inkjet printer
printing onto photo paper would be ideal. Matt paper is another good effect.
4
Glue the two sides of paper novelty card together. This needs to be done very accurately. The easiest way is to first cut out one side roughly then align
and glue the two side together using a bright light before accurately cutting around both.
5
Cut around the template to make it credit card sized. Our template should be exactly credit card sized when you print
it out. The best results can be got by using a craft knife and an existing novelty card as a template. Cut around the
existing novelty card.
6
Laminate the paper novelty card using a standard laminator. There are many types of laminator and laminate material. These can be bought fairly cheaply in shops such as Partners, Staples, Viking Direct, WHSmith.
7
Cut around the laminated card to give the final laminated novelty card.
Alternatively of course you could just buy a novelty card from us. Our cards are printed on PVC plastic like bank cards, feature holograms, and are far superior designs to
the free template. View the large selection of cards in our NOVELTY CARD CATALOGUE.
